Hacked for Good book cover: the word GOOD in gold on deep aubergine

You feel the pull to give. Something keeps getting in the way.

2.5hThe average person now spends hours a day inside a feed engineered to hold them, and walks away emptier than they went in.

LaterWe give less than we want to, later than we mean to, and feel worse about money than any generation in history.

GuiltCaught between the scroll we cannot put down and the giving we keep postponing, we settle for a quiet, low hum of guilt.

It was never your heart. Nobody ever removed the friction, built the habit, and handed you the machine.

Big Tech pointed the most powerful habit loop in human history at consumption, mostly by accident. The same loop can be pointed at generosity. That is the whole bet of this book, and there is a working machine behind it.

The author

Dr. Jeff Bullock

A pharmacist who became an AI builder, on a mission to make giving as powerful as social media and to help end poverty, starting in his own community. He did not just argue that giving is the smartest selfish move you can make. He built the machine that proves it, and the research behind this book is open to the public.

Honest questions

Isn't giving supposed to be selfless?

It can be, and that is beautiful. This book makes a different and quieter point. You do not have to choose between helping yourself and helping others, because the same act does both. Your brain rewards generosity on purpose. The selfishness is the hook that gets more good into the world.

Isn't using habit tech to make people give just manipulation?

A fair worry, and the book takes it head on. A predatory nudge fights you toward something a quieter part of you does not want. A prosocial nudge clears the way to the thing you already meant to do, then steps aside. The book is explicit about that line and the design commitments behind it.

Is this just a funnel to your app?

The app is named, disclosed, and free, and I hold none of your money. Giving runs through an established platform straight to vetted charities, tax-deductible. My whole philosophy is build capital and give it away, and everything I make keeps a free entry. The book says all of this out loud.
